My profession and job have given me the ability to have many “adoptive grandparents”. Like all grandparents my patients want what is best for me. A majority of my patients have been married for many years, some of them close to 70! Because of their years of being happily married, they are more than willing to help me find Mr. Right. Yes I’m single and no I don’t have a boyfriend. When my patients discover this, they automatically try to think of someone they can hook me up with. At my former job, I even had a friend of a patient that I referred to as “my matchmaker” to my coworkers. My coworkers always knew that when “my matchmaker” came in, I would have a few people to look up on Facebook and potential dates!
Match making encounters as an audiologist
These matchmaking encounters have left me with many laughs over the past few years and even a few great stories! Recently, I saw a very nice couple who had just started coming to our office. As I started visiting with the couple, the wife suddenly got very excited as she noticed and exclaimed, “Oh you don’t have a ring on your finger!”. As I decided to just brush the comment aside and proceed with the appointment, my single status was more important to her than her husband hearing well. She started excitedly telling me how she wishes I could meet her son as he is tall and such a nice man. As I sat there smiling, she then tells me how he is married to not a very nice lady and I would have been a much better match. I thought “Oh gosh now they are trying to hook me up with married people”. I had to laugh as I then found out he is 55–my dad’s age!
As my adventure as a single audiologist continues, I am sure there will be many stories and encounters of patients trying to be the perfect matchmaker.
