Let’s Start Building Solid Relationships Today! An audiologist’s perspective

Have you ever been on vacation somewhere enjoying the day and meet someone you connect with?  It may be over something simple like even a glass of wine.  This past weekend my brother and I ventured up to the Russian River Valley in California wine country.  It was here at Inman Family Winery that I knew I found my new favorite place and formed a simple connection.

Immediately we were welcomed by staff of the vineyard and the tasting began.  This small winery exudes warmth, friendliness, and really cares about their consumers.  While sampling, Kathleen, the wine maker graced us with her presence.  It was an experience that will not be forgotten.  I realized after leaving there that it wasn’t just about the amazing wine that we had.  More importantly it was about the experience, the openness and genuine sincerity that Inman Family Winery displayed.

It was this warmth, sincerity, genuine care, and friendliness that I aspire to provide to my patients each time.  It is the sense of connection that allows for a lifetime relationship between an audiologist and their patients.  At times I have encountered hearing aid wearers unhappy with the results they have received somewhere.  My response to them is always the same, “find an audiologist that you connect with”.  The power of a good relationship has benefits that are hard to describe and quantify.

A solid relationship is not just between a patient and the audiologist as there are several others that are just as important.  Meeting other audiologists in other specialties and in a variety of settings helps me put a perspective on things.  It allows me to refer my patients to the best audiologist in the particular field or geographical area.  This is why joining a professional network is so vital.  Building professional relationships allows for camaraderie, support, and many times lasting friendship.

It is relationships that bind us so just as the builders built the Golden Gate Bridge beginning back in 1933, let’s start building solid relationships today!
