The Wall Street Journal recently had an article about hearing aids and the prices. Mentioned in the article was one common complaint by consumers: that hearing aids are too expensive. We at Chicago Hearing Services recognized that cost was an issue for patients and decided to update our current business model to provide more hearing solutions for a greater number of individuals.
In  most hearing practices in the U.S., when hearing aids are sold, all of the services by the hearing aid dispenser or audiologist are included in the price of the hearing devices(s) and this is what adds to the cost of hearing devices. This is generally a good idea, because most patients underestimate how important the correct setup of a hearing device is for it to function to its maximum potential. That’s why, when looking for a hearing device, a large portion of the value added by a Doctor of Audiology is the level of service and expertise provided for the patient in the selection and setup of their hearing device.
Chicago Hearing Services and Dr. Vetter’s approach aims to add further flexibility to this process. We recognize not everyone needs all the services, fine-tuning adjustments, care and use procedures that some patients do. So, we offer different plans that come with our hearing devices. When a patient comes to the office in need of amplification, Dr. Vetter works with the patient to determine what hearing device technology and service plan is most appropriate for the patient, from full-service to a custom plan that only includes the basics. This allows for greater access to hearing wellness and allows patients to dedicate a larger portion of the funds to more superb hearing device technology.
